Pitch and rhythm together now, on the D string you know from Stage 1. For each line: clap
the rhythm, then say the note names in that rhythm, then air-bow it, then play —
and only then reveal the answer.
1 · Up and down in quarters and eighths
66 bpm
Quarter notes and eighth-note pairs, up the D string and back. Count '1 2 3 & 4' in each bar.
2 · With a rest
66 bpm
Count through the rest on beat 4 of the first bar. Reset the bow during it.
3 · Ends on a held note
64 bpm
Subdivide the half note at the end — '1 & 2 &' inside it — so it gets its full two beats.
If it fell apart
Fix one layer at a time. Pitches right but rhythm collapsed? Put the violin down and clap
the rhythm alone against a metronome. Rhythm fine but the fingers hesitated? Go back to the
pitch-only D-string reading from Stage 1. Never fix both at once.
